Amar Singh Chamkila's Friend Says Sridevi Wanted To Work With Him
Chamkila's friend, Sawarn Sivia, revealed in a past interview that the renowned Bollywood actress Sridevi once expressed interest in collaborating with Chamkila, but he declined the offer.
Sawarn Sivia's revelation emerged following the recent release of the Amar Singh Chamkila biopic on Netflix.

According to India Today, Sridevi, an admirer of Chamkila's work, approached him for a potential film project after witnessing his captivating performances. However, Chamkila declined the offer, citing his inability to converse fluently in Hindi.
"Sridevi was a fan of Amar Singh Chamkila; she even asked him to be a hero in her film. But he told her he can¡¯t speak in Hindi," stated Sawarn Sivia in the interview.
Despite Sridevi's offer to arrange Hindi language training for Chamkila, he declined, expressing concerns about financial losses during the learning period. As an alternative, Sridevi proposed a Punjabi film collaboration, which unfortunately never materialised.
Amar Singh Chamkila, born "Dhanni Ram" in Punjab, rose to fame for his controversial yet captivating music, earning him the moniker 'Elvis of Punjab.'
Tragically, Chamkila, along with his wife Amarjot and two other group members, was assassinated in 1988, leaving behind an enduring legacy in Punjabi music.
The biopic, directed by Imtiaz Ali and featuring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, delves into Chamkila's journey to stardom and his struggles with fame before his untimely demise. Diljit's portrayal of the legendary singer has garnered widespread acclaim, adding another feather to his cap following his recent success in the film "Jodi" and the star-studded "Crew."
The release of the biopic has reignited interest in Amar Singh Chamkila's life and career, offering audiences a glimpse into the legacy of one of Punjab's most iconic musical figures.
