Anupam Kher Takes A Dig At Anurag Kashyap Over His 'Oscars Entry' Remark On The Kashmir Files
Anupam Kher said that 'The Kashmir Files' doesn't need a certificate from filmmaker Anurag Kashyap as the audience love their film.
Anupam Kher dares to speak his mind when it comes to his field of work. The veteran actor, who is currently enjoying the success of his latest Telugu film, Karthikeya 2, has voiced his opinion on Anurag Kashyap's recent comment on Vivek Agnihotri's hit film The Kashmir Files.
When asked about his opinion on filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's recent remarks on his film 'The Kashmir Files' during a recent interview with Pinkvilla, actor Anupam Kher said, "Who's he?...We don't need his certificate."
"I'm expecting every award for the film. The award ceremony where I don't get an award for it...will be a fraud," the actor added.
For those unversed, Anurag Kashyap had earlier stated that he hopes the Vivek Agnihotri directorial isn't India's entry for Oscars.
The ace filmmaker said that 'The Kashmir Files' shouldn't be considered India's official entry to the Academy Awards as he thinks SS Rajamouli's RRR has 99 percent chance of bagging a nomination if it is sent to the Oscars as the country's official entry.
Later, Vivek Agnihotri reacted to The Tashkent Files director Anurag Kashyap's comment and tweeted, "IMPORTANT: The vicious, GENOCIDE-DENIER lobby of Bollywood has started their campaign against #TheKashmirFiles for #Oscars, under the leadership of the maker of #Dobaaraa."
Moreover, speaking of the ongoing south vs Bollywood debate, Karma actor Anupam Kher told Etimes, "You make things for consumers. (Problem starts) the day you start looking down on consumers, that, ¡®we're doing you a favour by making a great film. Now you are watching a great film.¡¯ Greatness is achieved by a collective effort and that I have learnt by doing films in Telugu...I just did another film in Telugu, I did a film in the Tamil language, I¡¯m going to do a Malayalam film."
"I think over there, I¡¯m not differentiating between the two but I think (their) cinema is relevant because they are not aping Hollywood. They are telling stories, over here we are selling stars," he further said praising South industry's approach in making films during the interview.
On the work front Anupam Kher has featured in several Bollywood movies including Baby, Special 26, A Wednesday, Vivah where he has exhibited his flawless acting skills. He will be next seen in Kangana Ranaut's upcoming film Emergency, which is based on the state of national emergency declared by Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975.
