'He's A Romantic Actually With His Three Wives': Bobby Deol On Marital Rape Scene In Animal
Here's what Bobby Deol who plays Abrar in Animal and Mansi Taxak who plays his third wife said in defence of the controversial marital rape scene in the movie.
Several scenes in the film Animal have stirred controversies. After Triptii Dimri opened up on the much-talked-about 'Lick My Shoe' scene from the movie, now Bobby Deol who plays Abrar and actress Mansi Taxak who plays his wife have also talked about another scene that has been labelled problematic by the audience - the marital rape scene.
Bobby Deol opens up on the controversial marital rape scene in Animal
If you have watched the film, you would remember that the sequence that marks Bobby's entry into the movie has him dancing on viral Jamal Kudu song at his third wedding. In the moment of celebration, when he gets to know that his brother has been murdered, he goes berserk. After announcing a two-minute silence in his brother's memory, he forces himself on his wife. After the marital rape scene, he signals his two other wives to join them in the bedroom, where he proceeds to violate them as well.
Talking about the scene in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Bobby Deol explained, "I was just portraying this character who is savage, who is an evil man and this is how he treats his women, this is how he is. And that¡¯s how I portrayed it. He¡¯s a romantic actually with his three wives."
Actress Mansi Taxak on marital rape scene in Animal
Earlier, in an interview with Zoom Entertainment, actress Mansi Taxak who plays Abrar's third wife in the movie, has defended the marital rape scene.
She said that the character of Abrar was twisted and only depicted "animal instincts".
Clarifying the scene, she said, "If you thought Ranbir's character was this way, you can expect the villain to be (worse). It was an apt way to establish Bobby Sir¡¯s character and to show the audience what real animal we're talking about. I would not wish that to happen at my wedding ever."
She added, "It was not the intent to show that any sort of assault was happening. It was just that Bobby sir did not expect his brother¡¯s death news to come on the wedding, which puts the character into a zone where he couldn¡¯t think straight. And that¡¯s what we¡¯re talking about, right? Animal instincts are unpredictable instincts. So he goes into that zone, and to vent out his emotions, he comes to his wives. I don¡¯t think it was intended to be any sort of assault. I didn¡¯t feel it on the set, or in the script. That was not the case. It was just a relationship between two people that has panned out the way it did."
