Decoding The Riddler's Message! 13 Crucial Details You May Have Missed In 'The Batman' Trailer
Here are some of the things that you might have missed in The Batman teaser trailer. If you are wondering what the Riddle's code mean, you might find answers below.
When word spread that Robert Pattinson has been cast to play the role of Batman in the Matt Reeves' film, superhero fans were not so enthusiastic about it. Some even expressed their disappointment on social media.
However, when the first look of the movie was released, people were pleasantly surprised. Now that the teaser trailer is out, the naysayers are singing a different tune altogether. After all, Edward Cullen has effortlessly transformed into the Caped Crusader and people are bowled over, and rightly so!
Apart from his praise worthy appearance, here are some of the things that you might have missed in The Batman teaser trailer. If you are wondering what the Riddler's code mean, you might find answers below.
#1 "No more lies"
In the first few moments of the trailer, it is evident that someone is wreaking havoc in the Gotham City. We see a mysterious figure, the victim, having his face covered in duct tape. Did you notice what's written on it? It says "No more lies."
#2 "To the Batman"
As Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) leads the Gotham City Police Department to the crime scene, a reluctant and hesitant Batman also enters the crime scene after a mysterious envelope addressed "to the Batman" is discovered.
#3 Batman's collaboration with GCPD
Batman looks a bit hesitant to even enter the crime scene which might possibly mean that his relationship with GCPD is at the infant stage. We know that eventually they will work side by side. At the same time, Reeves has made it clear that this isn't the origin story of Batman.
"For me, what was exciting, was not doing that, not doing what we've seen done so beautifully in other movies, but, instead to meet him in the middle of this criminological experiment to see him in the becoming of Batman and to see him make mistakes as Batman", he had pointed out.
#4 The Riddler and his code
As the trailer progresses, one can easily make out that the murderer causing havoc in the Gotham city is Edward Nashton alias The Riddler. Paul Dano is donning the role. The note left for the Batman is read out in a scene. It says, "From your secret friend. Who? Haven't a clue. Let's play a game, just me and you."
#5 The cryptic code!
There's a mysterious message in the envelope. What does it say? The cryptic code, according to fans, say, "what does a liar do when he's dead?"
The mysterious symbols, according to this fan, say "symbols translates to "he lies still." Many people are convinced he is right.
So hyped for Matt Reeve¡¯s Batman Movie, I decided to solve The Riddler¡¯s code. #TheBatman pic.twitter.com/vsxVxucedv

How did he decode it? Here's how!
I first analyzed the different symbols and found the ones that were reoccurring throughout the code. From here, I had two thought processes. I had a feeling that The Riddler may use the word "Batman" so I solved the first part as Batman.

#6 Origin of The Riddler.
Reeves says that the film will not only give the origin story of The Riddler but also Catwoman and the Penguin. "It actually, in a weird way, is the origins of a lot of our rogue's gallery characters. Selina (Kyle) isn't Catwoman yet. That's actually part of the journey. Oz is not yet the kingpin that he's going to become. The Penguin, in fact, doesn't like being called the Penguin. And the Riddler is just emerging for the first time."
#7 The Penguin
Colin Farrell is making his debut as the Penguin. If you also took a double look at the trailer to confirm this, he looks nearly unrecognizable with makeup and prosthetic.
#8 The Falcone-Maroni gang war.
The corruption in the Gotham city is on the rise. What's driving it is the mob. As Reeves had previously confirmed that Maroni and Falcone families will play a role in The Batman, we see the newspapers in the trailer hinting at both mob bosses. The headlines read, "Don's Done It again" and "King's Don!" Do these article talk about Mayor Don Mitchell Jr, or they are about Don Carmine Falcone?
The second newspaper reads "Maroni Drug Bust!", which indicated that the press isn't in the favour of Sal Maroni. Does Falcone controls the newspapers? Looks like it!
#9 The Court of Owls
The message for the Batman is written on a card. The imagery on the card has an owl. Does that mean the trailer has a Court of Owls tease? For the unversed, Court of Owls were first introduced in Greg Capullo's New 52 Batman comic series in 2011. They were a group of villains, a secret society, who Batman was yet to discover/uncover; the group that pushed him to the edge because they were large in numbers and dangerous assassins. While in this one, Riddle is in the villain, is it possible that in the next two films of the trilogy, Reeves might introduce the Court of Owls? Meanwhile, Court of Owls is being adapted for 2021's Gotham Knights videogame
#10 The Joker gang
We see Bruce fighting a gang that has painted its face as jokers. Since the Joker will not exist in this movie, does this mean that the film might shed light on the criminal formula that leads to emergence of the Joker?
#11 "Dead on Arrival"
Later in the trailer, people can be seen attending the funeral of the duct-tape victim. In the next moment, a runaway car with a message "dead on arrival" crashed through the building. In the pictures at the funeral Mayor Don Mitchell Jr is dead, but he is also the one who arrives in the runaway car. Why does public think he is dead? Who sent him? Did he know Batman would attend the funeral?
#12 Alfred Pennyworth
Andy Serkis¡¯ Alfred Pennyworth doesn't make a debut in the trailer but his voice could be heard. "You¡¯re becoming quite a celebrity", he tells Bruce Wayne referring to the notorious activities taking place in the Gotham city.
#13 The Batcave
The trailer also shows a brief look of the new Batcave.
