And represent he did! Diljit brought down the house with his hits "Jatt Da Pyaar," "Patiala Peg," and "Munda Hunda Dhuppa Vich Tan Kudiye." But his opening line, "Punjabi aa gaye Coachella oye," really connected with the audience.
During his interview, Diljit Dosanjh revealed an unexpected hurdle he faced just moments before taking the stage at Coachella.
A foreigner accidentally pulled out the cable of the keyboard, causing a minor delay in his scheduled performance at 6:50 pm. "I was losing time because the performance had to end at 7:30, and you can¡¯t extend it even by a minute because the sound would get disconnected. I was too worried then," he explained in Punjabi.
Despite the setback, Diljit remained calm and trusted that everything would work out, eventually delivering a historic performance.
Diljit explained that the line wasn't just his feeling - it was a shared emotion felt by everyone who has ever felt pride in their roots.
Diljit's performance was so well-received that he was invited back to the stage for an encore.
And in true Diljit fashion, he wore the same black kurta, lungi, and turban for his second performance, only this time in white. It was a fitting end to a historic night that proved Punjabi music and culture have a place on the global stage.
