After Laapataa Ladies' Success, Pratibha Ranta Talks About Her Role In Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi
Laapataa Ladies actress Pratibha Ranta is all set for the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi. She plays the role of Sanjeeda Sheikh's daughter, Shama.
After her impressive performance in Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies, Pratibha Ranta who played the role of an assertive, ambitious, and intelligent bride Jaya aka Kusum will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi, which is set to be released on May 1 (today).

The actress has revealed she is essaying the role of Sanjeeda Sheikh's daughter, Shama. For the unversed, Sanjeeda Sheikh will be seen as Waheeda, the
younger sister of Mallikajaan (Manisha Koirala). Waheeda is envious of her daughter's youth (Shama, played by Pratibha Ranta) and is on a path to regain her respect at all costs. Talking about her role, she said, "It is a nice, yet complex character, and I was able to see another version of myself through her because, at times, you experience things through your characters, that you may not experience in real life."

Talking about how she bagged the Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie, Pratibha Ranta said, "I had just completed shooting for Laapataa Ladies and was deliberating about what lay ahead. It was then that the offer for Heeramandi came my way, and I auditioned for the character. Somewhere in my mind, I was hoping for this to happen, and it did. I had always wished to be a part of the grandeur and magic that Sanjay Leela Bhansali creates. Now that I have visited the sets of Heeramandi, my next goal is to play a lead in one of the projects by Sanjay Leela Bhansali."
Before Laapataa Ladies and Heeramandi, Pratibha Ranta had worked in TV shows including Qurbaan Hua and Aadha Ishq. Hailing from a small town in Shimla, she said that she could instantly relate to her character in the Aamir Khan production. She said that the script was so good, she could visualise Jaya without any inhibitions.
