Hrithik Roshan's Fake Tan And Unconvincing Accent In Super 30 Is Making This Bihari Cringe

Ever since I have moved to Delhi, I have always encountered statements like, "But you don't look Bihari", "Where's the accent", "You have Litti chokha for dinner?", "Kuch Bihari Me Bol Ke Dikhao."

Friends in college were like "Oh, you are A Singh and not a Punjabi." When people from South India crib how Northerners don't understand them, I want to hold their hand and say, I'm staying in North for so long but I still face it. As a country, we're culturally diverse and languages differ, hence there are fixed premonitions about a particular state when we come to identifying people with.

When it comes to us, the "Biharis", people unapologetically have odd and super skeptical thoughts. Staying in Delhi and married in a Punjabi family, one thing that was hard explaining was that "Not every Bihari wears a ghamcha over their shoulders". For non-Biharis, it has naturally come into their system to abuse someone and say "Aye! Bihari kahi ka" and then profusely apologise if they see me.

And that makes me even more proud to be from Patna and shake people's faith up when they meet someone that doesn't fit their stereotype. Did you know that my state folk have been doing rather well in the field of education?

One such person is Anand Kumar. An educationist and mathematician best known for his Super 30 programme, which he started in Patna, Bihar in 2002. The programme coaches underprivileged students for IIT-JEE exam. Do you know by 2018, 422 out of the 480 students who were a part of Super 30 had made it to the IITs. Heck, even Discovery Channel showcased his work in a documentary.

And now Bollywood decided to make a biopic on the genius. The first few rushes of the film released yesterday and people are shook. While the movie is inspired by Anand Kumar's life, the stereotypes I was taking about Biharis above continues to be omnipresent in every frame.

Now, how many of you really concentrated on the trailer? Well, I couldn't take my eyes off Hrithik Roshan's unrealistic super tan face and unheard accent. For the uninitiated, Anand Kumar looks NOTHING like this.

Yep, that's what he looks like. But Bollywood has a way to exaggerate facts and looks. The makers really need to stop doing this where they cast fair skinned actors and make them dark skinned to represent working class.

If you get over Hrithik's fake looks, then you can't ignore his hilarious accent which is not even close to a Bihari one.

An unnatural fake accent and an out and out commercial film about a real teacher who doesn't look like the on-screen brown face Hrithik Roshan at all. Looking at the trailer, Super 30 is a very hard to relate yet real life masala Bollywood film.

This is not the first time, Bollywood has done this. In the past too, Alia Bhatt played a Bihari during Udta Punjab an she was made 4 shades darker. The makers of Gully Boy, have been giving the logic that Ranveer Singh got tanned during his wedding and so they made him look dusky for his role.

While cinema is getting progressive, some section of the film fraternity still take us back to old school regressive stereotypical things that others have been trying to break.

Mocking the places and people who belong to your country is not only hurtful but also shows the foolishness and how unaware people are about Bihar which has rich history and heritage. Here are a few facts-

- The Mauryan emperor, Ashoka, who was born in Pataliputra (Patna) is believed to be one of the greatest rulers in the history of the world

- The tenth and the last Guru of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh was born in Patna. A gurudwara has been made in his name

-The Gupta Empire, which originated in Magadha in 240 AD, is referred as the Golden Age of India in science, mathematics, astronomy, commerce, religion, and Indian philosophy

So when you applaud movies like Namaste London where Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif praise India in a grand speech, remember to add in a few pointers from above, if someone calls a dark horse, a Bihari.

Because a dark horse, we sure are.
