Katrina Kaif Thought 'Namastey London' Would Be A Disaster, Had Packed Her Bags To Quit Acting
Katrina Kaif thought Namaste London would be a disaster. She was confident that her career would be over and had even packed her bags.
Not many people know that Katrina Kaif made her debut with a film called Boom. The film tanked at the box office so bad that Jackie and Ayesha Shroff were bankrupt.
In her next films Salman Khan-starrer Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? and Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, people sat back and noticed her finally. But it was Namaste London that made her an overnight star.
Did you know Katrina Kaif was terrified after watching the film and thought the movie would be a disaster?
Katrina had packed all her bags. She thought she will have to look for a new career. She was so ashamed that she didn't even take director Vipul Amrutlal Shah's phone call for the longest time.
In an episode of Koffee With Karan, Kaif had said, "When I saw the film, I was terrified. Vipul (Amrutlal Shah, director) showed it to me and said, 'What do you think?' I didn¡¯t call him back. You know, when a director shows the actress a film, you have to give him feedback. I took off home, shut the door and didn¡¯t give him a call."
Vipul was "really upset" with Katrina.
"I called him and I said, 'Hi Vipul.' He asked, 'What do you think?' I said, 'Nice, very nice film. Okay, bye.'"
And she thought her career was over.
"I just saw too much of me in the film and you start believing what people say. I was like, 'No, no, no, people can¡¯t see me in a film, they won¡¯t watch the film, it¡¯s a disaster. This is over, my life is over.'"
She was shocked with the positive response to the film.
"I was like, 'I am packing my bags and I am going to find a new career'".
"That was really nice, it was really important for me because I think it did change people¡¯s perception. It was the first time I got so many calls even from the industry, from directors saying, 'I think you did pretty well in the movie'".
Katrina then gave many blockbusters like Welcome, Race, Partner, Singh Is Kinng, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Raajneeti, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Bodyguard and many more.
