Kubbra Sait who stunned us with her raw and honest portrayal of Kuckoo in Sacred Games, has been a brutally unvarnished version of the truth in reality too. The actress never minces her words or takes a diplomatic stand. She calls a spade a spade.
While most celebrity memoirs are accused of being tainted with lies or half-truths, Kubbra in her book called Open Book Not Quite A Memoir has been as candid as she could. From talking about being sexually abused by an uncle, who was a family friend to revealing how she once had an abortion after one night's stand with a friend, she has bared it all.
Towards the end of the book, there is a chapter titled I Wasn't Ready to Be a Mother in her book, Kubbra Said reveals about having an abortion.
She said the incident took place in 2013. She went to the Andamans for a vacation when after a few drinks, she had one nightstand with a friend.
Kubbra who was 30 back then took up a pregnancy test when she missed her periods a few days later. It came out positive. A week later, Kubbra decided to have an abortion and she says she doesn't regret it at all.
"A week later, I decided to terminate the pregnancy. I wasn¡¯t ready for it. It just wasn¡¯t the way I had imagined my life or my journey," she wrote as quoted by Times Now.
Talking to Times Digital, she divulged, "I think I was not ready for it. I was not ready because I was not ready for it as a human being. "I don¡¯t think I am still ready. I don¡¯t understand this pressure around women to get married at 23 and have children by the time they are 30."
When asked if she ever regretted her decision, she said, "No regrets." and added, "Of course I felt like a terrible human being! A horrible human being because of that choice I had made. But my feeling bad did not come from how I felt but rather how other people would perceive it."
She continued, "My choice was about me. Sometimes helping yourself can be hard. But it is ok. You have to do it".
