In the aftermath of the tragic death of Friends star Matthew Perry at the age of 54 last month, his ex-girlfriend Kayti Edwards suggests that there might be some inconsistencies, hinting at the possibility of a relapse.
She expresses that "things aren't adding up," raising questions about the circumstances surrounding Perry's passing.
¡°I know Matthew, and I know that he wouldn¡¯t have just drowned,¡± Edwards told the UK Sun in an interview published Saturday.
¡°I think he might have taken pills in the week leading up to this.¡±
The former model asserts that she briefly dated Perry in 2006 after meeting at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
She claims they stayed close even after their relationship ended, with her working as his assistant in 2011. Perry was found dead on October 28, at 54, from an apparent drowning in a jacuzzi at his Los Angeles home.
Although initial toxicology reports were negative for fentanyl or meth, Edwards suggests that "things aren't adding up" regarding the details of his death.
They said there were no prescription painkillers at the scene, which doesn¡¯t surprise me because he didn¡¯t leave drugs lying around,¡± Edwards said.
As mentioned earlier, there were no illegal drugs discovered at Perry's Pacific Palisades residence, only a small number of prescription medications.
¡°He was paranoid and would take them all, so there wasn¡¯t any evidence, and then go out for more when he was ready to.¡±
According to Edwards, Perry's last Instagram post, shared five days before his death, included clues that suggest a potential relapse. The post featured a picture of him in the jacuzzi with the caption, "Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I'm Mattman."
Edwards claims that Perry's use of "Mattman" was an indication that the actor may have been using illegal drugs once again.
¡°That Mattman thing was not something he did when he was sober. Mattman would come out when he was not sober, and he felt invincible,¡± Edwards said.
¡°I was around when he was getting high, although I was not getting high with him, and when I would say maybe he should cool it a little bit with the drugs, he would say, ¡®No, I¡¯m Mattman.'¡±
Edwards also asserted that Perry had a tendency to be in the water when he consumed alcohol or drugs. She claimed that a former neighbor once discovered him ¡°naked and high in his [neighbor¡¯s] swimming pool.¡±
¡°I had to go over there and get him out of his neighbor¡¯s pool. He had a thing with water when he was doing drugs,¡± she added, stating that Perry was purportedly "always alone" during instances when he used drugs.
Edwards had previously asserted that she worked as a delivery driver for Perry during the peak of his addiction in 2011. In a 2020 interview with the Sun, she disclosed that, while she was five months pregnant, she would reportedly pick up "cocaine, heroin, and crack" for the actor.
¡°I was like five months pregnant, going down and getting stuff for him. He [would say], ¡®No one¡¯s going to pull over a pregnant girl. Don¡¯t worry,¡¯¡± she recalled.
In his memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing," Perry openly shared the tumultuous and decades-long struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. The '90s sitcom star provided candid insights into the highs and lows of his life during the grip of addiction, acknowledging the severity of his condition. In his own words, "Not only do I have the disease, but I also have it bad. I have it as bad as you can have it, in fact. It¡¯s back-to-the-wall time all the time. It¡¯s going to kill me¡"
Perry was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills on November 8.
