To pay tribute to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, the Indian Cricket team sported black armbands. The 92-year old passed away on Sunday, February 6, after a prolonged illness.

Sharing the news, the official BCCI handle tweeted,
"The Indian Cricket Team is wearing black armbands today to pay their respects to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Ji, who left for her heavenly abode on Sunday morning. The queen of melody, Lata didi, loved cricket, always supported the game, and backed Team India."
Earlier, BCCI had shared,
"The BCCI joins the nation in mourning the loss of Bharat Ratna Smt. Lata Mangeshkar Ji. The queen of melody enthralled the country for decades. An avid follower of the game and an ardent supporter of Team India, she helped create awareness using music as a medium."
Former skipper Virat Kohli, opener Virender Sehwag, table tennis star Manika Batra took to their social media accounts to condole Lata Mangeshkar's demise.

An ardent cricket fan, Lata Mangeshkar, performed at a fundraising concert for the Indian cricket team when it won the 1983 World Cup. She did not charge a single penny for it.
Lata gave voice to Bharat Vishwa Vijeta-- and cricketers joined her to sing the song along with her on the stage. The team raised ?20 lakhs, a hefty sum. Two-day national mourning will be observed in memory of Lata Mangeshkar.
The national flag will also fly at half-mast for two days as a mark of respect, and she will be given a State funeral.
