She rose to fame after a man uploaded her video in which she was singing a Lata Mangeshkar¡¯s Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma at a railway station. But her journey to success and fame began after Himesh Reshammiya gave her a big Bollywood break. Not one song, she has recorded three songs with the music composer already.
At the song launch event, when Ranu Mondal was speaking about her journey so far, she couldn¡¯t thank Himesh Reshammiya enough. It was an emotional moment apparently, and the music composer broke into tears as he talked about her. Take a look!
"Sab katputli hai hum log, sab kuch upar wala karta hai,¡± he says.
¡°I am grateful for the love of people. They have given me immense love and I got a chance to sing. Himesh ji gave me this big chance, relying solely on my voice. I¡¯m so grateful,¡± Ranu Mondal told the reporters.
The 58-year-old Ranu Mondal said she was living with the hope that one day her talent will be recognised.
¡°When I used to sing, I didn¡¯t realise (this day would come), but I had faith in my voice. I was initially inspired by Lata (Mangeshkar) ji¡¯s voice and used to sing as a child. Even in the future I¡¯ll continue to sing."
¡°I never lost hope. Yes, the magnitude of the stage given to me by Himesh ji, is something that may be I didn¡¯t anticipate. I had earlier performed on stage but there was a gap of few years in between,¡±
She learnt by listening to songs on cassettes, she said.
¡°I never stopped listening to songs. I used to listen to songs of Rafi, Mukesh, Kishore Kumar, Lata ji, Kumar Sanu and Sonu Nigam. I used to listen to them on cassettes and learn continuously.¡±
Meanwhile, Lata Mangeshkar whose song made Ranu Mondal popular made a statement that didn¡¯t go down too well with her fans who asked her to be more gracious. She suggested the aspiring singers to not imitate her or any other singer, as the fame by imitating doesn¡¯t last.
Talking about the same, Himesh Reshammiya said that copying doesn¡¯t work. However, he believes inspiration is important.
¡°I feel we have to see in which connotation Lata ji has made that statement. I feel when you start copying another singer then it doesn't work that well. But I also feel that taking an inspiration from someone else is really important," he said.
¡°Kumar Sanu always tells that he is inspired by Kishore Kumar. Similarly, we all are inspired by people in some way or the other. When I started singing songs in high pitch then people criticised me, terming it as nasal singing. But if you look at the international scene, it has become a common trait.¡±
Statement or not, Ranu Mondal deserves all the success that she is getting.
