The much-awaited teaser of Angelina Jolie starter Eternals was released yesterday and fans are since then going bonkers. Here's all you need to know about the Marvel film and its history in comic books.
From Game of Thrones connection to breathtaking visuals and Angelina Jolie's magnificent role as a seasoned warrior, there are so many things that Marvel fans are excited for in the forthcoming and much-awaiting film Eternals. The teaser looks nothing short of amazing. As we get all set to welcome this new era of superheroes in Nov 2021, here is everything that you should know about the Eternals to amp up your excitement.
1. Who are Eternals?

They are the next set of superheroes all set to join MCU. As per the official synopsis of the movie, they are "ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years." They are an offshoot of humanity living on Earth who have greater powers and longer lifespans.
2. Eternals history in Marvel comic books and DC connection

This might be a bit shocking but Eternals were loosely brought over from DC. They were created by Jack Kirby, the co-creator of Avengers, X Men and more. He had quit Marvel and joined DC Comics, its rival, as he felt he wasn't being given adequate credit for his contribution. There, he created New Gods and characters like Steppenwolf and Darkseid, and more. And then he returned to Marvel.
When this happened, he brought in some super powered mythical being which was inspired by DC's New Gods. These beings were Eternals.
3. What's their story?

The Eternals were made by Celestials, the extraterrestrial cosmic beings who visited Earth one million years ago to perform genetic experiments. In the process of making Eternals, they also happen to make genetically unstable and monstrously grotesque Deviants. Eternals henceforth lived on Earth and defended the planet.
4. The reunion of starks

It's Kit Harington's Marvel debut film. He will essay the role of Dane Whitman, a human. However, he would wield a mystical sword and become the Black Knight. Richard Madden aka Robb Stark is essaying the role of Ikaris, a team leader and plays an important role in the movie. He dons blue, red, and yellow costumes to battle villains with his eye beams
4. The Avengers Endgame connection

The film follows the events of Avengers: Endgame. "Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, The Deviants," says the official synopsis of the movie.
Did you know Thanos was a member of the Eternals race? Thanos is dead at the moment. Fans suspect he might appear in the movie as part of a flashback.
5. Ibu Hatela is in the film too.

Desis cannot hold back their excitement to see Harish Patel aka Ibu Hatela from Gunda, in the movie. What role is he playing? He is essaying the role of a Bollywood movie star in the film.
For the unversed, Eternals isn't Patel's first international project. He has previously been part of movies like The Buddha of Suburbia, Today's Special and Run Fat Boy Run, which was the directorial debut of Friends star David Schwimmer.
He also made appearances in Hulu series Four Weddings and a Funeral and British drama Coronation Street.
"In India, I am a character actor. Here people think I am sitting idle but I am regularly doing work there (in the West). I am very happy that I am getting attention (here) after so many years. People would often refer to me as Ibu Hatela from 'Gunda' but I feel my work in other films was equally good. However, I don¡¯t like tom-tomming about my work. If I had to, I could have said that 'Slumdog Millionaire' was offered to me and I couldn¡¯t do it because of my other prior commitments," he told PTI.
6. Kumail Nanjiani took inspiration from Hrithik Roshan for his role.

Nanjiani who is essaying the role of Kingo, a buff Eternal who is a cosmic-powered being living in the present day as a Bollywood star, said that he aimed to look like Hrithik Roshan in the movie." I went to my trainer and said, 'I want to look like this guy (Roshan)'", Nanjiani told Men¡¯s Health magazine.
In an attempt to look like him, he started getting body dysmorphia, a mental health condition where a person worries about the flaws in the way he or she looks.
"I don¡¯t want to discount people who genuinely have debilitating body issues. I don¡¯t have that. But I did start getting some body dysmorphia. I¡¯d look in the mirror and I¡¯d see my abs ¡ª and when I looked again, they would fade. I would just see the flaws," he said.

7. Bollywood dance sequence and Indian wedding!

The teaser gives us a glimpse of Nanjiani's Bollywood dance sequence. Not only that, there is a traditional Indian wedding between Madden and Gemma Chan's characters, Ikaris and Sersi. Desi fans are obviously excited.
8 . Angelina Jolie as Thena

Jolie has already caught the attention of fans. She essays the role of Thena, a warrior who can build weapons using cosmic energy. She has nailed several action roles in the past, and with this one, she is taking it a notch higher.
9. MCU's first deaf superhero

Lauren Ridloff from The Walking Dead (Connie) will play Makkari, a role which in the comics is male. It has super-speed and is Marvel's first deaf superhero.
"I am more thrilled than overwhelmed about being given the opportunity to represent the deaf community. I'm very thrilled about that - just to bring in that storyline within the MCU. I think there's plenty of room for more stories like that," Ridloff had told Scott Davis in an interview.
10. Chlo¨¦ Zhao

The movie is directed by Chlo¨¦ Zhao who just won an award for best director in Nomadland. Going by teaser, the movie looks beautifully filmed. The expectations of fans are high!
11. The star-studded cast!

Apart from Jolie, Madden, Harington, Nanjiani and Ridloff, there's Salma Hayek in the movie who plays Ajak, described as the spiritual leader of the Eternals, Atlanta's Brian Tyree Henry is essaying the role of Phastos. There's Gemma Chan too as humankind-loving Sersi.
The film is set to be released on Nov 5 in the US.
