Are your friends asking you to make plans to watch Oppenheimer in theatres? Why is everyone looking forward to watching the biographical movie in cinema halls? This is just not any other film. It's a Christopher Nolan movie, Oppenheimer, about a man who leads the project that developed the world's first atomic bomb.
Here's why you should watch Oppenheimer only in theatres!
1. It's based on a true story!
Based on the Pulitzer Prize¨Cwinning biography American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the movie explores the story of Julius Robert Oppenheimer, the man who spearheaded the Manhattan Project that developed the world's first-ever atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War 2.
2. Do you want to know why and how the world's first atomic bomb that killed thousands of people was made?
The film will explore the reason behind the development of the world's first nuclear weapon, and what was the mental turmoil of those involved on the project. Who in his or her right mind will make a weapon that will kill thousands of people?! The movie explores the dilemma of Oppenheimer, also known as the father of the atomic bomb.
3. Why you should watch the film only in theatre?
The movie has been shot with wide-angle deep-focus IMAX cameras. As per Nolan, "The sharpness and the clarity and the depth of the image is unparalleled¡ You¡¯re getting a feeling of 3D without the glasses. You¡¯ve got a huge screen and you¡¯re filling the peripheral vision of the audience. You¡¯re immersing them in the world of the film."

But the film is available in the IMAX 70-millimeter format in just 30 theatres across the world. Sadly, none of them are in India. Yet, it's going to be a cinematic experience that is fully immersive.
5. America's race against the Nazis to make the nuclear bomb.
During the second world war, America was in race with the Nazis to develop the bomb first. The destruction was going to happen either way. In the trailer of the film as well, Matt Damon's character asks "Are we saying there's a chance that when we push that button, we destroy the world?" In reply, Cillian Murphy who is playing the Oppenheimer says, "Chances are near zero".
6. Matt Doman wanted to take a break from films unless Christopher Nolan called.
Matt Daman who previously appeared in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar had told his wife during couple's therapy that he would take a break from acting. His only caveat was if Nolan called. As a result, he is now playing General Leslie Groves in the Christopher Nolan movie.
7. It's a Nolan movie after all!
In case you don't know who Christopher Nolan is, he is the man behind movies like Inception, Interstellar, Tenet, Dunkirk, The Dark Knight, Insomnia, The Prestige and Memento among other things. If you haven't watched any of these films, we are sure you have heard about them. Nolan's films are known for their complex and mind-bending plots that often require more than one viewing to fully comprehend. 8. Oppenheimer used Bhagavad Gita to make sense of what he was doing.
Do you know the man who made the first atomic bomb ever was not convinced about his decision to do so? He knew he was making something that could destroy lives. Was it the right thing to do? 9. But he never found the peace he was looking for!
Two years after nuclear bomb detonation, Oppenheimer said in an interview, "In some sort of crude sense which no vulgarity, no humour, no overstatements can quite extinguish, the physicists have known sin; and this is a knowledge which they cannot lose." He died at the age of 62 due to throat cancer, possibly caused by his lifelong chain smoking.
10. How did Nolan show an atomic bomb explosion with no Computer-generated imagery (CGI)?
Well, you will have to watch the film to know more. Some fans even thought that he actually detonated an atomic bomb. To that, Nolan said, "It's flattering that people would think I would be capable of something as extreme as that on the one hand, but it's also a little bit scary."
Then what did he do?
"CGI inherently is quite comfortable to look at," Nolan told THR. "It's safe, anodyne. And what I said to [visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson] on 'Oppenheimer' is, 'This can't be safe. It can't be comfortable to look at it. It has to have a bite. It's got to be beautiful and threatening in equal measure," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
11. Nolan's comparison of Oppenheimer with Batman
He called him one of the most complex characters ever. "I think of any character I¡¯ve dealt with, Oppenheimer is by far the most ambiguous and paradoxical. Which, given that I¡¯ve made three Batman films, is saying a lot."
