Some call it a high-end kitty party. Some call it an entertainment night. The fact of the matter is - no one takes them seriously - not even the Bollywood stars themselves.
While we all still look up to Golden Globes and Oscar ceremony. The entire nation was rooting for RRR with bated breaths to win an Oscar, and when it finally did, the entire nation including Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the win.
Do Indian award shows lack credibility? Are they trying to please everyone? Here's what Bollywood stars thinks about the award shows.
1. Rishi Kapoor admitted he once bought an award for Rs 30,000.
This happened in the year 1974. The award was for his performance in Bobby. When he revealed the same, he said he was ashamed of what he did as a young and rich. He wrote about this in his autobiography Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor Uncensored.
Furthermore, the actor had once told DNA, "I use trophies as doorstops in my home. What they have done to film awards is truly tragic. Agar sabko khush karna hai toh phir award ka matlab kya hua?"
He added, "I couldn¡¯t believe it when they gave an award to Parineeti Chopra for losing weight. Will they give me one for gaining weight? They pleaded with me to accept it. They think my work is over, so they keep giving me lifetime achievement awards."
2. Salman Khan used award trophies as doorstoppers
Salman said that he doesn't believe in award shows anymore. He only looks forward to the audiences' reception of his films. Their love is what matters. He said that he has seen award trophies being used a doorstoppers at home. He even said that he would give away these awards when there was no space in the house. He shared that once he was promised an award but didn't get it which left him disappointed. His entire family was sitting in the audience when the award was given to Jackie Shroff instead.

3. Kangana Ranaut said she was refused an award because she was stuck in traffic.
In a chat with Anupama Chopra and Rajeev Masand, Kangana had revealed, "Early on, I got dressed up for some award, I don't remember the award but I was supposed to receive the award for supporting cast for Life In A Metro. I got stuck in traffic. I started getting calls asking ¡®where are you¡¯. The hysteria and panic that I experienced, I didn¡¯t make it and Soha (Ali Khan) got it for Rang De Basanti."
4. Farah Khan called award shows idiotic.
"My only thing is that Om Shanti Om should have won every award for its dialogues, but that didn¡¯t happen. And it just shows how idiotic these awards are. Because all the dialogues from the film have become cult. People use the dialogues from the film in everyday life, be ¡®Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost¡¯ or ¡®Itni Shiddat¡¯ or ¡®Ek chutki sindoor¡¯. These are some iconic dialogues. It didn¡¯t win a single award for dialogues. Mayur Puri should have won every award. But that doesn¡¯t matter today. Even Sholay didn¡¯t win an award for dialogues," she was quoted as saying by HT.
5. Varun Dhawan says he performs at award shows and gets paid.
Varun Dhawan was disappointed after his movie October didn't get any nomination. " Recently, Jacqueline Fernandez watched the film on a flight and called me to appreciate my performance. That is the royalty I am collecting," he told Mid-Day, adding that he is still happy to go to award functions and perform there and get paid for it. "Award shows have a lot of other criteria¡¯ at play when it comes to picking the winners."
6. Aamir Khan declared he won't ever attend award shows.
Aamir had said that he doesn't see any value in these award ceremonies. "I don't go to award functions. For me the biggest award is the audiences' reaction and love. I don't want to comment on awards," he was quoted as saying during a media interaction.
7. Emraan Hashmi calls award shows entertainment events.
Emraan Hashmi told Bollywood Bubble, "It¡¯s like an entertainment event. It¡¯s like we like festivals, we like grandeur and TV ratings. You get a bunch of stars together and it¡¯s about entertainment. You have people dancing and then people who are dancing, they get awards. So you know Surprise Surprise! I mean there is nothing wrong with that. The problem is that if you delude yourself that you actually got that award on merit. It is basically for your presence there."
8. Ajay Devgn says the winner's name changes at the last moment.
Ajay Devgn said that he doesn't accept awards. Elaborating on this, he told HT, "They (the organisers of private awards) need maximum number of stars to attend their ceremony, so they call you up and tell you that if you attend their event, they will give you an award. So what is the point of getting an award only if you will attend the show? And if you are unable to make it at the last minute ¡ the chit with the name of the winner changes and another actor gets the trophy. I have lost faith in such ceremonies."
9. Nawazuddin Siddiqui says he has requested the management to not nominate him for awards.
He said he gets irritated when he is nominated as he feels there is no seriousness left in award shows. "They (popular award shows) have become very shallow. Sometimes, I feel that they should shut down," he was quoted as saying by HT.

10. John Abraham has zero respect for award shows.
Abraham said that he only has respect for National Film Awards. "I don¡¯t respect awards at all. How can you have an award called ¡®Best Social Media Internet Star?¡¯ I have zero respect for awards and they know (it). Because I disrespect them, they don¡¯t even nominate me. If you ask me, Parmanu is worth many nominations, but we wouldn¡¯t be nominated because of my total disrespect for every award barring the National Award maybe," he said during a media interaction.
11. Akshay Kumar said that he only attends the award shows where he is performing.
He said a lot of times the name of the awardees is changed at the last minute in order to please sponsors and others and on the basis of the attendance of the stars. No award means no show by a celebrity.
12. Kunal Kohli had once sarcastically said Oscars needs to learn from Indian award shows.
Filmmaker Kunal Kohli who is known for films including Fanna, Hum Tum and Mujhse Dosti Karoge, had once said that international award shows don¡¯t know how to keep everyone happy and that it is all about TRPs and sponsors.
