Post-Astroworld Tragedy, Fans Urge Travis Scott To Learn From Linkin Park, Adele, Harry Styles
According to reports, several concert attendees were left wounded as ambulances rushed in, but the show continued. The disaster is one of the deadliest in America since the 2017 mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas.
A Houston music festival ended in a tragedy killing eight people and injuring several others. The tragedy unfolded as crowds surged toward a stage while hip-hop star Travis Scott performed.
According to reports, several concert attendees were left wounded as ambulances rushed in, but the show continued. The disaster is one of the deadliest in America since the 2017 mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas.
Houston-born rapper Scott had founded the Astroworld Festival in 2018.
Who is Travis Scott and why is he being condemned?
Travis Scott is a 30-year-old US rapper, singer and record producer from Houston, Texas. Scott rose to fame and popularity for his 2018 album "Astroworld", which is also what the festival is named after. A famous artist, Scott had previously collaborated with other prominent rappers, including Drake, Young Thug and others.
He shares a child with Kylie Jenner, and the couple is expecting again.
Founded by Scott, Astroworld is held in Houston on the former site of Six Flags Astroworld -- this year was its third edition as it was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2018, Scott had released his studio album of the same name, and the original line-up consisted of Post Malone, Metro Boomin, Lil Wayne, Scott himself, among others.
After the Astroworld tragedy, an old video of Scott resurfaced on the internet where he can be seen ordering his audience to ¡°f**k up¡± after an attendee allegedly tried to pull his trainers off his feet.
In the video, he is seen screaming:
¡°You tried to take my show? Do you want to be a thief? F**k him up!¡±
According to confirmed news reports, Officials estimated about 50,000 people were attending the outdoor event at NRG Park when crowds began to "compress toward the front of the stage," Houston Fire Chief Samuel Pe?a said.
"That caused some panic, and it started causing some injuries," Pe?a added that the festival was well below the 200,000 capacity allowed under the fire code.
While the investigation to delve deeper into the cause of the case is still underway, music fans all over the globe took over Twitter.

Sometimes it takes very little to be 'human' and help people and that's the lesson fans wanted Scott to learn from his fellow music artists.

if billie eilish can pause her shows to make sure her fans and supporters are okay because she understands how crazy her concerts could get then travis scott could¡¯ve stopped his show to help his fans at his set. there¡¯s no excuse

I was at a festival last month where Billie Eilish stopped her set to tell security to help a group of people waiving for help. Then proceeded to scan the crowd for anybody else in need. Travis Scott saw a full ambulance at Astroworld in the middle of the crowd and did nothing.

From urging Travis to 'take notes' from them to lauding Adele, Linkin Park, and others, here's how fans reacted.
1. Adele:
In 2017, Adele halted her concert in Australia after a fan in the front row had a cardiac arrest. As soon as she noticed a fan fainting, she stopped performing and immediately asked the medics to respond.

2. Harry Styles:
In the same year, in 2017, Harry Styles paused a show in London after he noticed a girl having a panic attack in the crowd. Again in 2019, during a concert in Los Angeles, he stopped his performance midway, checked on a group of fans, and asked if they were okay. After the crowd responded, 'no', he asked the attendees to take 'one very slow, very gentle step back' so that medics could extend help to them.
3. Billie Eilish
This year at the Governor's Ball festival, Billie Eilish shouted out to security mid-song and requested them to pay attention to a disturbance in the crowd. Fans started sharing an old clip from an Eilish concert where the "Ocean Eyes" performer is seen stopping a show after being alerted that someone from the crowd had passed out.
4. Lady Gaga
In a widely shared clip, Lady Gaga stops the concert after she spots a fan in the crowd bleeding. Pausing the show, she immediately reached out for medical help for the fan.
Lady Gaga stops her show when she notices a fan is bleeding. She asks her name, if she needs a paramedic, & apologizes that she got hit. It¡¯s heartbreaking Travis Scott & the organizers/staff at AstroWorld didn¡¯t have this compassion & understanding of their responsibility. pic.twitter.com/IN2J0eJNcp

5. Stray Kids and BTS
Stary Kids and BTS won the hearts of millions of fans when they chose not to start their performances until they were sure that their fans were safe. One of the members from Stray Kids told fans: "We're not gonna do the show until you move back; it's really dangerous."
¡°Travis couldn¡¯t stop the concert¡± okay but how did a world wide boy group with 7 members and a crowded stage can? And stray kids who were teenagers at that time, Travis is an whole adult and dad, plus this is isn¡¯t the first time he saw someone d1e and not help them #astroworld pic.twitter.com/WBfMhnE1pv

6. Nirvana
During a 1993 concert, Kurt Cobain paused his song and ran to the front of the crowd.
He chose to confront a man who was 'apparently' sexually assaulting a woman. After giving the man an earful, he went back to the stage and took back the mic and said,
"Copping a feel, eh, buddy?" The band pointed out at the man and humiliated him for his misdeed by saying: "Look at him, look at him, ha ha ha!"
After the tragedy, Scott took to Twitter to share his thoughts. He wrote:
¡°I¡¯m absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival. Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life. I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support families in need. Thank you to Houston PD, Fire Department, and NRG Park for their immediate response and support. Love You All.¡±
But it definitely looks like music fans all over the world are in no mood to forgive Scott.
