9 Traits Of The Urban Dog Lover And His Love For Man's Best Friend

You probably know several of them, or you might be one of them yourself. The urban dog lover (UDL) is adorable and annoying at the same time and no one loves them more than man's best friend, pawing all over them.

1. Does not own a dog, but probably used to own a dog in the past.

Dog owners love their pets but they don't go around shoving puppy love (literally!) in your face. The UDL does not own a dog unfortunately, but makes up for it by being the doggy godmother, probably being the second favourite person in their lives.

2. Stops to pet other people's pooches and strays.

Thereby slowing down the pace of those who they are with and getting distracted in conversations with anyone. Also, not to mention carrying several germs and fleas in their being. Word of advice - ask them to wash their hands before they eat or hand you anything.

3. Complains about why they can't keep a pet at home.

Whether it's having a small house, not being well-funded or opposition from family, these problems seem to take a central theme in the story of their lives. When they start a sentence with "if only" you will know what's coming up.

4. Loves browsing around at pet stores.

Not because they want to buy something, but because they just want to trip over the cuteness that's on sale. It's a way for them to fantasise about having a pet and spoiling them with cute accessories, as if its for their own children. However you can't deny dog and cat clothes are the cutest thing ever.

5. Opening up a dog shelter or working at one is a dream job.

Heartfelt and absolutely adorable, the UDL is passionate about homeless dogs and strays who go uncared for while waiting for a miracle of adoption. They passionately believe potential dog owners should adopt dogs rather than buy expensive ones from pet shops.

6. Approaches other people's dogs without intentions of hitting on the gorgeous owner/dog walker.

It's cute dogs before cute people yo! As opposed to us 'not so crazy about dogs' folk, who swoon over gorgeous hunks out with their canine buddies.

7. Feeds all the neighborhood strays.

Since they can't have one at home, they make do by taking care of strays who love them back in return for food. You will always find a plate of food (biscuits, chapattis, bones) lying outside the house and a big bowl of water.

Every time they step out of their house, the dogs are following them wherever they go. The question is, for love or for food?

8. Puppies over babies.

UDLs are way more comfortable around dogs than they are with children. If someone has a baby, they are ready to stay ten feet away from it, like it's an alien.

Barks and licks are so much more comforting than an infant's crying or throwing a tantrum over something trivial. People around UDLs just can't seem to understand why they can never be comfortable around the offspring of their own species.

9. Loves hanging out at pet cafes.

Another reason to socialise and play with pedigree (or not) pooches who are out for a spot of lunch with their owners. This sometimes leaves pet owners unnerved, they can't eat in peace because of a weirdo coddling their dog.
