Is Deleting Dating Apps The New Test Of Commitment?

Congratulations! You have managed to navigate through all the complexities of dating and have finally found someone who hasn¡¯t ghosted, stashed or breadcrumbed you.

You¡¯re in a brand new relationship and things are going great. You and your partner are spending a lot of time texting, talking on the phone, cuddling and going out on some amazing dates.

Thanks to the advent of technology and it's impact on the dating scene today there are two plausible scenarios that will now take place in your newly budding relationship.

First, you met your new boo on one of the dozen dating apps out there, which leaves one serious question looming over the both of you: if and when should you delete your dating profiles after you started seeing each other?

The second situation would be that you did not meet your significant other on a dating app but both of you still have dating apps that are blissfully taking up space on your phone.

Naturally, deleting your dating profiles altogether might seem daunting: you might as well have just said ¡°I do.¡± But relationship experts argue that in today¡¯s non-committed dating culture, there is no better way to prove your commitment to someone.

That brings us to the question: is deleting dating apps the new test of commitment? I asked nine committed people what they would suggest in this particular situation and this is what they said:

1. ¡°Deleting dating apps indicates my partner is serious about seeing me. This can only mean one thing: he is in an exclusive relationship,¡±

2. ¡°If I find someone who I really really like then I would delete my dating profile because the search for a romantic partner is over. But no pressure on my girlfriend, you can¡¯t really force someone to see you as ¡®the one¡¯.¡±

3. ¡°If you really like someone and you are lucky enough that they like you back, just simply delete the app. If things don¡¯t go well, you can always download the app again and continue moving forward.¡±

4. ¡°I don¡¯t get what the big deal is. I have told my partner multiple times that I do have the app on my phone but I simply don¡¯t use it. So if its there or not there, it makes absolutely no big deal to me.¡±

5. ¡°Call me old-school but when you truly believe it can be going somewhere, this is a fair time for each of you to ask the other to deactivate or delete their profile."

6."If you had a first date and you like them, don't go in and delete all your apps and remove yourself completely. Just don't go on them for a bit and go back to it if you need to later on. But if it goes for a few weeks and you think 'okay, this is great,' then delete it."

7. ¡°If things are just fun and games between the two of you, and you know that there's no lasting connection, then there is really no need to remove your profile.¡±

8. "Depends on how you identify? Are you monogamous, polygamous or poly-amorous. If you're in a relationship with someone and you've both decided to see only each other then keeping these apps on your phone does constitute emotional cheating to an extent. Besides, there would be no point in keeping them if you really are serious about your current monogamous relationship."

9. ¡°I waited at least three months before taking down my dating profile. Simply because it took me that long to know that this is someone I want to share a possible future with. I think that¡¯s fair.¡±

10. ¡°When we had the exclusivity chat, it seemed natural for both of us to delete our profiles.¡±
