TikTok videos with the hashtag #boyfriendair have been seen over 225 million times. There is no obvious reason why boyfriend air occurs, whether it is a physical phenomenon, a psychological phenomenon, a coincidence, or some mix.
Many women have taken to TikTok to complain about "boyfriend air" - the idea that after spending time with your lover, you feel less confident about your appearance.
Perhaps your makeup has magically vanished or your acne has flared up. Your gleaming, healthy hair transforms into something disgusting.
Where does this trend come from?
TikTok videos with the hashtag #boyfriendair have been seen over 225 million times.
There is no obvious reason why boyfriend air occurs, whether it is a physical phenomenon, a psychological phenomenon, a coincidence or a mix.
However, mental health professionals believe that healthy communication is the greatest approach to keep everyone in a partnership happy and feeling their best.
What's the deal with 'boyfriend air?'
When someone new joins our lives, particularly our immediate domestic setting, we adapt to accommodate them. Maybe long showers lead to hours of lounging on the couch. Exfoliating takes a back seat to cuddling.
Not to mention that exposure to a boyfriend's hygiene products, facial stubble or even laundry detergent may cause skin irritation.
What is driving this trend?
There is no scientific evidence that boyfriend air exists. It could just be one of those TikTok trends that appeared out of nowhere.
"It's great that we humans now have a platform to talk about our shared experiences," says Cecille Ahrens, a registered clinical social worker. "However, I also worry about the proliferation of false or inaccurate information."
