At least 14 people paid with their lives for the negligence and lackadaisical attitude of the authorities to ensure that safety norms are being followed in public places.
Just a couple of months after negligence caused a stampede in Mumbai local's Elphinstone Station which killed 23 people, Mumbai has witnessed yet another tragedy because those responsible to ensure safety seems to have turned a blind eye.
The unfortunate victims of the fire were celebrating the birthday of a friend in a pub when the tragedy struck.

Initial probe has revealed gross negligence from the pub owners Hitesh Sanghvi, Jigar Sanghvi, and Abhijit Manka who have now been booked under culpable homicide.
The fire broke out on the rooftop of the 1-Above restaurant, after its shed, made of bamboo and plastic, began to burn. It engulfed the building in less than 30 minutes with dozens of people trapped inside.

The restaurant did not follow any safety norms and did not have any fire extinguishing equipment on the premise. What made the tragedy even worse is that the fire exit door of the restaurant was allegedly blocked by its staff causing a delay in the evacuation.

Dr Sulbha KG Arora, a Mumbai-based gynaecologist who had a miraculous escape recalled how she survived the fire.
The #KamalaMills fire started at 1 Above. I was there and barely made it out alive. Some were not so lucky. Praying for the injured and the deceased. It was the scariest thing I have ever survived!

There was a stampede and someone pushed me. People were running over me even as the ceiling above me was collapsing in flames. Still don't know how I got out alive. Some powers were definitely protecting me ?? #kamalamills

Mumbai grows at a fast pace, with no infrastructure to keep up. No parking spaces, traffic, blocked hydrants - how can emergency services respond effectively? Time to replace jugaad with organization.#KamalaMills

Well done #BMC, again ur bribes has killed many at #KamalaMills. To all officers who granted permission shall be suspended lifetime & CBI inquiry shall be placed on BMC to see how many such permissions are granted which has structural & fire issues. #MumbaiFire
