Deer Chased By Wild Dogs Strays Into Bengaluru, Rescued From A Restaurant

Residents of Rajajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru were left surprised after they spotted a deer walking around on their street.

The stag was first spotted by some local residents who alerted the Karnataka Forest Department.

Initially, a 15-member team of the Karnataka Forest Department was deployed to capture and rescue the animal.

But after several attempts to capture it failed some 13 volunteers also joined the effort.

Finally, after over an hour, the rescue team managed to capture the deer.

The deer which gave the rescue team a run around was captured from inside a restaurant where it had entered to hide.

The deer which is said to have been chased by feral dogs away from the Turahalli reserve forest was examined by a doctor from People For Animals (PFA) and was released back in the forest.

Spread over 600 acres, Turahalli is one of the last surviving forest patches in Bengaluru Turahalli Forest is located about 20 km from the Karnataka capital.

It is home to a range of species of animals including spotted deer, wild boar, hares, jackals, lizards and mongooses.

Feral dogs have been for long an issue in Turahalli forest.

In March this year, forest officials had recovered the carcass of deer that was killed by a group of feral dogs in Turahalli.

It was the first such case reported in 2020. However, in 2019 there were several incidents in which deers were killed or injured by packs of dogs.

Last year the Forest Department had acknowledged the problem of feral dogs in Turahalli and said that they are seeking the help of BBMP to control their population.
