As many as 15 people succumbed to dengue this year in Delhi, which is the highest in the last six years, according to government data.
The capital logged a total of 8,975 dengue cases in 2021, the data according to an ANI report revealed.

Though the total number of dengue cases is the highest since Delhi¡¯s biggest outbreak in 2015, the weekly numbers indicate that dengue cases are on the decline now.

In November, the Union health ministry appointed central teams of experts in around nine states and union territories (UTs) to assist them in managing the outbreak of dengue.
While the monsoon season typically sees some cases of dengue, lack of precautionary measures and poor management by the authorities have led to a sharp rise in the cases this year.
Moreover, cases of malaria, chikungunya, and viral fever were also rampant during this season.
Every year, from July to November, an upsurge in cases of dengue is observed. The disease has a seasonal pattern, i.e., the peak comes after the monsoon and it is not uniformly distributed throughout the year. Dengue mosquitoes can¡¯t breed once the temperature falls below 16 degrees.

LNJP Director Suresh Kumar, said compared to the last 3-4 years, this year there is an increase in dengue cases. This is because of the prolonged monsoon and second, there are more mosquito breeding sites.
