Missing girl found next morning
The victim's parents, who are daily wagers, had filed a police complaint after they noticed that she was missing when they came home at night.
The girl was found near a park in the area early next morning, adding that she was rushed to a hospital for medical examination, where doctors confirmed that she had been raped.
She is undergoing treatment at a hospital and has been operated upon for the grievous injuries inflicted on her private parts.
A case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 6 Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have also been added, they said.
10 teams to investigate the case
An investigation is underway and 10 teams of special staff have been formed to trace the accused person, who is yet to be identified.
"We have pressed 10 teams of special staff and police station to look into different angles and trace out the accused. With the leads we have, we are hopeful to nab the accused in the next 24 hours," a Police official said.
DCW seeks report
On Friday, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) issued a notice to the city police, seeking an action-taken report in connection with the incident.
The commission has sought the details of the FIR copy registered in the matter from Delhi Police. The commission has also asked for the details of the accused arrested in the matter.
"If no accused has been arrested, please inform the steps taken by police to arrest the accused. Detailed action taken report in the matter", the commission has said in the letter.
The DCW has asked to provide the sought information to the Commission by December 26.
"Five-year-old girl raped in Delhi. She was picked up from the front of her residence at Bhalswa Dairy and later, found near a lake. She underwent a surgery in a hospital. My team is with her. We have issued a notice to the Delhi Police so that the accused are arrested soon," DCW chief Swati Maliwal said in a tweet.
