Sikandar disappoints at the box office

Sikandar, starring Salman Khan and directed by AR Murugadoss, has failed to live up to expectations at the box office. According to Manobala Vijayabalan, a trade analyst, the action thriller collected Rs 175 crore in its full run. This figure fails to do justice to the film¡¯s budget of Rs 200 crore as well as the standards ¡®Bhai¡¯ has set for himself.

¡°Sikandar grossed ?175 cr at the WW Box Office. The film is a flop when compared with its budget. Of late script selection from Salman Khan hasn't been that good, hence the result,¡± he told Indiatimes.

Sikandar has failed to match the performance of Tiger 3, Salman Khan¡¯s last solo release. The Maneesh Sharma-directed action-thriller earned Rs 464 crore at the worldwide ticket window during its full run. Sikandar has also collected less than Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which was released on Eid 2023. The Hindi adaptation of Veeram earned Rs 182 crore in its lifetime.

Explaining the reason behind the dull response to Sikandar, Manobala said that Salman¡¯s decision to work with AR Murugadoss backfired as the Tamil filmmaker ¡®has lost his touch¡¯

¡°Another major factor is director AR Murugadoss. He has lost his touch long back. None of his recent films worked with the audience. He should have been extra cautious while making the film with a megastar like Salman. If that had happened, the film would have had a different result, he added

AR Murugadoss, the director of well-received Bollywood films such as Ghajini and Holiday, suffered a setback when Spyder (2017) bombed at the box office. The Mahesh Babu-led thriller raked in merely Rs 120 crore on a budget of Rs 150 crore and also received mixed reviews. ARM also failed to redeem himself with Rajinikanth¡¯s Darbar (2020). The cop drama, which was shot on a budget of Rs 200 crore, grossed Rs 250 crore its full run, However, several distributors reportedly suffered losses as the pre-release rights exceeded the earnings.
