Gurugram Man Stops Mercedes On Roadside To Urinate, Armed Men Flee With The Car At Knife-Point

In a shocking incident, a lawyer from Gurugram was robbed by a gang of three armed men who fled with his Mercedes car.

The incident happened near the Audi showroom chowk in Sector 29 of Gurugram on Thursday evening.

The lawyer, identified as Anuj Bedi, a resident of Gurugram's Sector 66 area, was returning home on his white Mercedes-C220 around 8:30 pm when he stopped the car to urinate.

"I was returning home from a liquor shop in Sector 29 in my white Mercedes-C220 (2014 model) car. I stopped my car on a roadside just ahead of the Audi showroom chowk, and went to urinate," he said.

"I had left my car running and when I returned, a Hyundai car came from behind and stopped in front of my car. Three men came out of it and one of them held me at knife-point and threatened me. Finally they fled away with my car," Anuj Bedi said in his complaint.

Police launch probe

Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered under sections 382 (snatching by using criminal force) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC at the Sector 29 police station.

"We are trying to identify the accused with the help of CCTV footage of the nearby area. The accused will be arrested soon," ASI Sandeep Kumar, the Investigating Officer, told PTI.

Car thefts in Gurugram

Car lifting has been a major issue in Gurugram and in the first ten months of 2022, as per the police data, 2,893 vehicles were stolen from across the city.

In other words, on average, nine cars were stolen every day in Gurugram in 2022.

In 2021, 3,517 vehicle theft cases were registered in Gurugram.

A total of 2,715 vehicles were stolen from the city in 2020.

In November, the Gurugram Police busted an interstate gang that used to steal vehicles from Gurugram, Delhi and other parts of the National Capital Region and supply them to northeastern states.

The accused, Neeraj Sharma, his wife Lalita and her cousin Naini Gopal Biswas, were nabbed from Panchgaon chowk on November 4.

Two vehicles stolen from Gurugram ¨C a Mahindra Thar and a Hyundai i10 ¨C were recovered after the suspects were interrogated and their fake registration number plates were also seized.

The accused confessed to having stolen 71 vehicles in Delhi and two in Gurugram.
