Even as the shock over the tragic death of Anjali Singh, a 20-year-old woman who was hit by a car and dragged on the road for 12 kms in Delhi on New Year's eve, continues, a similar incident has now come to light from neighbouring Noida.
Three final-year B.Tech students of the GNIT College in Greater Noida were injured after a speeding car hit them on New Year's eve.
Another hit and run on New Year's eve
While two of them who suffered minor injuries were discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, the condition of 21-year-old Sweety is stated to be serious.
Sweety, who received critical injuries on her legs and head following the accident, has been put on a ventilator and is said to be in a coma.
Bother seeks help for Sweety's treatment
The incident came to light after Sweety's brother requested help for his sister, who is fighting for her life in the ICU of the Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida.
¡°I am Santosh Kumar and I am raising funds for My sister-Sweety Kumar, a student of GNIOT College, Greater Noida, as she has met with a major road accident. Doctors have advised her to stay in the hospital until she fully recovers. She is currently undergoing treatment at Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida. We have spent Rs 1,00000. Further treatment will cost Rs 10,00,000 and we need funds to continue the treatment,¡± he wrote in a social media post.
Culprit yet to be identified
According to the police, Sweety and two others were hit by a speeding car at Beta 2 in Greater Noida around 9 pm on December 31.
"On December 31, 2022, at 9 pm, three students were heading towards Delta from the Alpha 2 bus stand. Meanwhile, an 'unidentified' vehicle hit them from behind. The passersby immediately rushed the injured to the hospital. Two students, with normal injuries, have been discharged, while a girl student was gravely injured, her treatment is going on at Kailash Hospital. The victims' family members reached the hospital and met with police personnel," Greater Noida Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police Dinesh Kumar said.
Though a case has been filed, even after three days, the cops have failed to identify the culprit or the vehicle involved.
Police said several teams have been formed to investigate the case and efforts are underway to collect CCTV footages from the sites close to the accident spot.
