A man accused of stealing a mobile phone allegedly poured petrol on himself and attempted to set himself ablaze at Chandrayangutta Police Station in Hyderabad. The police officers doused off the flames and he was shifted to a government hospital for treatment. He has suffered 10 per cent burn injuries.

A man called Naresh Gouda had registered a police complaint stating that an unknown person had snatched his mobile phone. According to TNN, locals brought a man by the name of Mohammed Shabbir to the station, claiming he was the thief.
Rudra Bhaskar, Inspector of Police, Chandrayangutta said told ANI that on physical verification police did not find the complainant¡¯s cell phone in Shabbir¡¯s possession. Following this, he allegedly shouted and created a nuisance in the police station. He was in an inebriated state. So, the police sent him back home. After some time, he came back to the police station, poured petrol on himself and lit a fire. Police personnel doused off the flames.
¡°K N Prasad Varma Additional Inspector and Crime Police Constable received burn injuries during the rescue attempt,¡± said Bhaskar.
Further, the inspector said that they have lodged a complaint against Shabbir. He added that he has a total of eight criminal cases registered against his name in different police stations of the city.
