In Maharashtra, Over 1,000 Police Personnel Test Positive For COVID-19 & 7 Succumb To Virus
More than 1,000 police personnel from the Maharashtra Police department have tested positive for coronavirus. "887 personnel have tested positive for Covid-19 and seven have succumbed to corona since the lockdown,"Deshmukh said in a series of tweets.
In one of India's worst-hit states, the novel coronvirus has taken a toll on frontline warriors as well. More than 1,000 police personnel from the Maharashtra Police department have tested positive for coronavirus.
In the past 24 hours, the state police added more than 221 cases to its infections tally. The total count of 1,007 cases in Maharashtra Police includes 901 policemen and 106 police officers.
Mumbai Police is the worst-hit with close to 400 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the department.
So far, 7 police personnel have succumbed to death in Maharashtra Police. These include four from Mumbai and one each from Pune, Solapur and Nashik rural. A total of 113 cops have, meanwhile, recovered till now. In a call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the states must be cautious while planning to lift the lockdown, considering that India may witness a surge in COVID cases.

Sharp spike in Maharashtra
Maharashtra is the worst-hit state in the country. The state has so far reported 23,401 corona cases adding 1,230 cases in the last 24 hours.
The state's death toll rose to 868 after 36 more fatalities.
Mumbai's case count reached 14,355 with 791 new cases detected on Monday, while its death toll is 528 now with 20 more fatalities. At least 57 new cases were reported from the city's Dharavi slums.
