Man opens up about his divorce struggles
Since then, many have taken to social media to narrate their stories, while highlighting how laws have been weaponised when it comes to maintenance and compensation after divorce.
Alok Mittal, a Bengaluru-based UX designer, is one of them. In a series of posts on LinkedIn, Mittal narrated how his life has turned on its head after he got married.
According to Mittal, he got married to Mansi Aggarwal, who works as an analyst at CollegeDunia, in May 2023. However, soon after his marriage, Mittal became jobless as the company he worked for shut down. To make matters worse, his wife became pregnant, and she 'forced' Mittal to find a job. Though Mittal secured a job in Bengaluru, his wife refused to relocate with him and started living with her parents.
Wife earns Rs 80,000 a month
According to Mittal, even after their son was born, his wife refused to join him and instead demanded that he should return to Delhi.
"When she realised her manipulations were failing, she filed a false domestic violence case against me," he alleged.
According to Mittal, his marriage had only lasted six months, and now his wife is demanding a monthly maintenance of ?1.5 lakhs and a lifetime compensation of ?1 crore, even though she is earning ?80,000 per month.
'Using laws to silence me'
Mittal further claimed that he is still deeply in debt due to the wedding expenses, which included his wife's demands for a honeymoon in Europe, a bigger banquet hall, and a designer lehenga.
"Under current laws, I cannot file any case against my wife, which leaves her free to weaponize the system against me. She expects me to stay quiet and endure the false cases she has filed¡ªfrom Bengaluru to Delhi¡ªwhere she stands to gain lifetime maintenance and a hefty alimony," he alleged.
