Nearly 93% Delhi Resident Don't Know What AQI Means, Only 58% Say They're Affected By Pollution
Survey done in 10 most polluted areas of Delhi revealed on Friday. More than 500 residents from Ashok Vihar Dwarka ITO Lodhi Road Patparganj Rhini RK Pura Siri Fort Anand Vihar and Bawana talked to United Resident Joint Action.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court said that Delhi is a gas chamber and it¡¯s better not to be in Delhi. But surprisingly, about 93 percent of the people in Delhi don¡¯t understand the Air Quality Index or and its six categories.
The survey was done in 10 most polluted areas of Delhi revealed on Friday.
More than 500 residents from Ashok Vihar, Dwarka, ITO, Lodhi Road, Patparganj, Rhini, RK Pura, Siri Fort, Anand Vihar, and Bawana talked to United Resident Joint Action (URJA)-a collective of the city¡¯s resident welfare associations and ARK foundation.
The respondents were talked to in such a way that minimum 50 people each from the 10 localities and they didn¡¯t know the meaning of the AQI and how the air quality is categorised as good, moderat, poor and severe. Nearly 89 percent of the respondents were not aware about that pollution monitor installed in their areas.
88 percent people said that they hadn¡¯t seen any LED screens showing the different levels of air quality, the survey said. Surprisingly, only 71 per cent of the respondent said they aren¡¯t satisfied with the air-quality in Delhi.

Only 58 percent respondent said they were affected by pollution and 42 percent said they were not affected.
