Several Great Indian Bustards have died due to collisions with high-voltage power lines. Chief Justice SA Bobde said steps will be taken to prevent electrocution.
The petition was that the Great Indian Bustard is large and so finds it difficult to change direction in flight leading to such accidents.
The numbers have declined recently.
"We will study the court's judgment in detail and then decide what can be done. I think we will not have any major problem in replacing the smaller 132 KV lines but for the rest, we will need the Power Ministry¡¯s clearance for any action," said Mohan Lal Meena, PCCF and Chief Wildlife Warden of Rajasthan.
The Great Indian Bustard is on the list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature as a critically endangered bird.
