The Tamil Nadu police have arrested a woman and three of her associates for the murder of her boyfriend and chopping his body into pieces that were buried in the sand.
According to the police, the victim, 29-year-old M Jeyanthan, had been missing since March 18.
Told sister he was going home
Jeyanthan, who was working as the ground staff of Thai Airways at Chennai International Airport, had informed his sister P Jeyakruba that he was going to their native place Villupuram.
But since there was no information about him for days, Jeyakruba, who works as a lawyer, filed a missing complaint with the Pazhavanthangal police on March 21.
During the investigation, the police found that the last known tower location of Jeyanthan was in Pudukkottai. His call records led the police to a woman called Bakkiyalakshmi.
Accused woman was a sex worker
Jeyanthan's family said that he was in a relationship with the woman since 2020.
According to the police, 38-year-old Bakkiyalakshmi was a sex worker and had met Jeyanthan for the first time in a lodge in May 2020.
They later got into a relationship, and according to the woman, they got married at a temple at Mayilam near Villupuram without the knowledge of his family.
The relationship did not last long, and in 2021, they broke up.
Killed victim with help of friends
It is still unclear why Jeyanthan, who told his sister that he was going to his native place, went to Pudukkottai instead or what led to the brutal murder.
According to the police, on March 19, he met Bakkiyalakshmi, and following an argument, she, with the help of two friends, killed Jeyanthan and chopped his body into pieces.
Travelled 400kms with body parts
The next day, Bakkiyalakshmi and her friends took some of the body parts, travelled on a bus for some 400kms and buried them in Kovalam on the outskirts of Chennai.
The trio returned to Pudukkottai the next day. Six days later, Bakkiyalakshmi hired a cab, travelled to Chennai with the remaining body parts, and buried them near the original location.
According to the police, Bakkiyalakshmi claimed that a temple priest she had known helped her bury the body.
While the woman has been arrested, the three men who helped her are on the run.
Police find claims misleading
Police have so far not been able to recover the body parts which Bakkiyalakshmi claimed were dumped in Chennai.
Police said they believe that Bakkiyalakshmi is misleading them with contradictory claims and has not given a convincing reason for travelling 400kms twice to dump the body parts.
