Chennai Super Kings' young sensation Sameer Rizvi left spectators in awe with his explosive performance during their IPL 2024 face-off against Gujarat Titans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday.
In his IPL debut, Rizvi showcased remarkable skills, smashing a sensational six against renowned leg-spinner Rashid Khan. The 20-year-old continued his onslaught by hammering another six on the last ball of the over, effortlessly clearing the long-off fence.
Rizvi's family, in a video shared by his brother Sabool on Instagram, was seen rejoicing over the batter's maiden IPL six. In the clip, a family member could be heard mentioning Rizvi's pre-match declaration, "Keh kar gaya tha pheli bol par six marunga" (He had promised to hit a six off the first ball).
Securing a whopping 8.40 crore deal at the IPL 2024 mini-auction, Rizvi was snatched by the Chennai-based franchise after a bidding war with Gujarat Titans.
Sent in to bat ahead of Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni against Gujarat, Rizvi capitalized on the opportunity, scoring 14 runs in just six balls.
His blitzkrieg cameo aided CSK in setting a daunting total of 206/6. Shivam Dube emerged as the top scorer for the five-time champions, unleashing a rapid-fire knock of 51 runs off 23 balls.
During the run chase, GT struggled, losing wickets at regular intervals and managing only 143 runs in 20 overs. CSK's Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tushar Deshpande each bagged two wickets.
Despite playing only seven first-class matches so far, Rizvi has already accumulated 96 runs.
The explosive middle-order batsman showcased his prowess in the latest UPT20 edition, amassing 455 runs in nine innings for Kanpur Superstars. Rizvi, hailing from Meerut, hammered two centuries and led the sixes chart for his team.
Rizvi's impact extended to the CK Nayudu Trophy quarter-finals for UP, where he plundered 312 runs off just 266 deliveries. His aggressive innings featured 33 boundaries and 12 sixes. Moreover, he has represented India at the Under-19 level and made his Ranji Trophy debut at the tender age of 16 in 2020.
