Israel Palestine War Day 5: Over 2,100 Killed, First Flight Carrying US Arms Reach Israel

The death toll in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has crossed 2,100 with the majority of the fatalities being on the Israeli side from the surprise attack of the militia on Saturday.

How many have died

According to Israeli media, the death toll crossed 1,200 on Tuesday with close to 3,000 injured and the fate of an estimated 150 people abducted and taken to the Gaza Strip still unclear.

The death toll hit a grim 1,000 late Tuesday and the number climbed to 1,200 by Wednesday morning.

Death toll in Gaza

The Health Ministry in the Hamas-run coastal enclave has claimed that the total number of deaths due to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip reached 900, while 4,500 others were injured, including 15 paramedics and 20 journalists.

It also said the fatalities include 260 children and 230 women, as well as 22 families who were killed in their entirety.

On Tuesday, the IDF had claimed that it had recovered around bodies of around 1,500 Hamas gunmen who had infiltrated into Israeli territory.

What is happening in Gaza

Meanwhile, Israel which declared war on Saturday continued with its aerial attacks across Gaza, turning parts of the Hamas-controlled area into a pile of rubble.

The worst hit has been Gaza City's upscale Rimal neighborhood, which is home to shopping malls, restaurants, residential buildings, offices and home to Hamas government ministries.

The Israeli military's Arabic spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, said that Israel was trying to ¡°evacuate civilian populations from areas where Hamas has a military presence¡± before unleashing ¡°powerful destruction," which Gaza residents say is untrue.

What Israel said on Gaza

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on Tuesday said the IDF is moving to "full offence" against Hamas targets.

"I have released all the restraints. We have [regained] control of the area and we are moving to a full offence," he said in an address to troops deployed along the Gaza border.

"You will have the ability to change the reality here. You have seen the prices [being paid], and you will get to see the change. Hamas wanted a change in Gaza; it will change 180 degrees from what it thought," the minister said.

"They will regret this moment, Gaza will never go back to what it was," the Defence minister said, adding that Israel, with all its might and, without compromise, would eliminate "whoever comes to decapitate, murder women, Holocaust survivors".

How US is reacting

Meanwhile, the aircraft carrying US arms to Israel has reportedly landed in the country. The IDF did not specify what kind of armaments or equipment it got from the US, which had reaffirmed its support for Israel and the country's right to defend itself.
