'Illegal immigrants are also victims'
"Many of the people who seek mass migration are often victimised along the way. It's not good for anyone. The only people who benefit from mass migration are traffickers," Rubio said in a statement shared by the State Department on X.
"The Trump Administration is focused on stopping illegal migration and protecting both our borders and citizens," the post added.

Dunki route
Many Indians also fall for their promises and often take what is popularly called the dunki route, to enter the US. They do this by first travelling to a country in Europe or the Middle East before taking a flight to Latin America.
After reaching countries like El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Honduras, they travel to Mexico, often on foot, through jungles, mountains, and other dangerous routes, in a journey that could take days, weeks, or even months.
The human traffickers charge anywhere between Rs 40-60 lakh from an individual to take them to the US through the dunki route.

Many who get injured or fall sick during the journey don't even make their way to the US border and are left behind to die if they are not able to keep pace with the group.
