Scientists want to build a ¡®Noah¡¯s Ark¡¯ on the moon, Elon Musk says 'Good idea'
In a recent study published in the journal BioScience, scientists discussed the possibility of obtaining samples from at-risk biodiversity on Earth and storing them frozen on the moon.
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, has given his thumbs up to a proposal to build a repository on the moon to save endangered species from extinction. Responding to a post on social media about scientists proposing to build a 'Noah¡¯s Ark' on the moon, Musk said, 'Good idea.'

Doomsday vault on moon
According to reports, the biorepository¡ªa storage facility for frozen samples¡ªwill be similar to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, better known as the Doomsday Vault, but will be located on the moon.

Where will the lunar vault be built
In a recent study published in the journal BioScience, scientists discussed the possibility of obtaining samples from at-risk biodiversity on Earth and storing them frozen on the moon. The storage facility has been proposed to be built on the north or south pole of the moon, where craters create permanent shadows and maintain a constantly frigid temperature of almost -200¡ãC.
Why built a doomsday vault on moon
Scientists say that a safe storage facility outside our planet would ensure better chances of survival for some of Earth's most endangered biodiversity, even if the Doomsday Vault in Norway fails.

"With thousands of species at risk of extinction, scientists have proposed a lunar vault filled with preserved samples of Earth¡¯s most endangered creatures. The international team of experts warned that climate change and habitat loss have outpaced our ability to protect species, making urgent action necessary. A repository to safeguard biological samples from disaster is not a new idea," the post quoted by Musk stated.
Musk has similar plans to save humanity
It should be noted that Musk has been a long-standing advocate of establishing a human colony outside Earth to ensure that our species would survive. The SpaceX founder has spoken in detail about his ambitious plan to establish a human colony on Mars within the next few years.
Earlier this year, Musk said that he planned to move around one million people to Mars to establish a self-sustaining, large-scale human settlement there.
