Wyatt Yager, 19, and Colin, 16, were fishing about a mile off the New Hampshire coast when Colin spotted the whale and began recording. The US Coast Guard confirmed that no injuries were sustained, and the incident has been reported to the Center for Coastal Studies marine animal hotline and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
While orcas are known to attack boats, humpback whales typically approach boats out of curiosity rather than aggression. Despite their generally gentle nature, people swimming near humpbacks risk being struck by the animal¡¯s fluke (tail), particularly if they swim into a blind spot.
