IPL 2025: GT's middle order exposed despite Sherfane Rutherford & Shahrukh Khan's effort; LSG win by 33 runs
While LSG got off to a strong start with the bat in the IPL 2025 clash, GT couldn't replicate the same momentum. Sai Sudharsan (21 off 16) and Shubman Gill (35 off 20) were dismissed early in the chase of 236 runs.

At the start of this Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game, many believed it would be an easy win for the high-flying Gujarat Titans (GT) against the already-eliminated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, that assumption couldn't have been more wrong, as GT lost the match by 33 runs at their own home ground.
While LSG got off to a strong start with the bat, GT couldn't replicate the same momentum. Sai Sudharsan (21 off 16) and Shubman Gill (35 off 20) were dismissed early in the chase of 236 runs. Jos Buttler tried to stabilize the innings with a quick 33 off 18, while Sherfane Rutherford (38 off 22) and Shahrukh Khan (57 off 29) played impressive knocks. However, it wasn't enough, as GT's middle order was exposed under pressure.

LSG dominate GT again
The team from Lucknow has now secured their third consecutive win over Gujarat, including a double over them this season. GT had dominated the head-to-head record previously, winning the first four encounters, but LSG seem to have cracked the code¡ªespecially on GT's home turf.
Powerhouse start by LSG, top-order collapse for GT
Today, LSG truly outclassed GT, and the key to their success was removing their big three¡ªSai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler¡ªearly in the chase. Akash Deep, despite an injury to his right hand, returned with a strapping and bowled a superb slower delivery to dismiss Buttler.
Despite the early blows, GT didn't go down without a fight. Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan stitched together an impactful partnership that temporarily silenced critics of GT's middle order. However, once they were dismissed, the tide turned. Will O'Rourke's return spell accounted for both Rutherford and Rahul Tewatia, swinging the momentum decisively back to LSG. Avesh Khan then delivered a near-perfect 19th over to all but seal the win.
In the final over, Ayush Badoni was handed the ball and he finished things off in style, clean bowling Kagiso Rabada (2 off 3) and Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore (1 off 2).
