Maradona led Argentina to their 2nd and last FIFA World Cup title to date in 1986. He scored the infamous Hand of God and Goal of the Century vs England. A playmaker, he created a lot of chances for his side to score and was sheer poetry in motion on the pitch. That is what made him the GOAT so to speak.
The legacy he leaves behind is hard to match up to.
