While Our Armies Battled In Kargil, India Faced Off Against Pakistan In A Do-Or-Die World Cup Game
Indian soldiers were busy baying for Pakistani blood in Kargil as they had their eyes fixed on claiming the Tiger Hill back. And 5,000 miles away, Mohammad Azharuddin and his men were busy locking horns against Wasim Akram's men in Manchester. Such was the summer of 1999 for the sub-continent.

The war started between the two countries when Pakistani soldiers crossed over to the Indian side of the border. The war started in May and continued till July 26, 1999 after Indian soldiers captured the Tiger Hill from the Pakistani army. And the Cricket World Cup started on May 14 till June 20.
The high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan was on June 8 in a Super Sixes clash. It was the 34th match of the season.
India went off to a decent start as Tendulkar scored 45 against bowlers such as Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar and Saqlain Mushtaq. After scoring 227 at a loss of six wickets in 50 overs, India had no other option but fight back.
As Pakistan took the field to bat, the wickets started tumbling as Javagal Srinath, Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble choked the Pakistan team to 180 in the 46th over. Although India didn¡¯t go further in the World Cup after beating Pakistan, they had won a major battle that kept India¡¯s supremacy over their arch-rivals alive.
What an uncanny co-incidence ¨C India beat Pakistan in both Kargil and Manchester.
