Android 14 Is Coming: Six Exciting Features We're Looking Forward To

Google is expected to launch the latest Android 14 update on October 4, 2023 along with its new Pixel line-up including the Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel Watch 2, among many things.

Every Pixel device, starting with Pixel 4a will receive the Android 14 update alongside the launch of the new Pixel devices, as was reported by Canadian carrier Telus in a forum post that has been changed since then, TechRadar reported.

Even then, all signs point to the launch of Android 14 today that is expected to come with a range of new features. The Google Pixel 8 launch event kicks off tonight at 7.30 pm IST and will live stream on Google's website and YouTube channel.

Here are the six most exciting features we're looking forward to on Android 14.

Custom lock screen

Google has been unable to implement a customisable lock screen on its Pixel devices, lagging behind the likes of Samsung and Apple. But with the upcoming Android 14 update, users will be able to customise their lock screen through dynamic clock design, screen colours.

Android 14 users would also be able to add shortcuts to features like do not disturb, QR code scanning, torch, and wallet.

Satellite connectivity

Following in the heels of Apple SOS via satellite feature, Android 14 should offer the satellite connectivity feature - something that should start appearing in more phones as time passes.

It's unclear as of now what this feature will be like on Android 14. It's also important to have the right hardware to support this feature, so high-end models should be able to support this feature, or you might have to wait for the right device.

Notification flashes

Android phones are no strangers to notification flashes, but with the upcoming Android 14 update, this feature is expected to become integrated with the the core functioning of the operating system.

The feature will essentially flash your phone screen or torch each time you get a notification, making it especially useful for people with hearing disabilities.

Better battery

Google is making several tweaks to its software to help improve your battery life. Although no sweeping changes are expected, Android 14 is slated to change how your Android phone handles background tasks, giving a boost to your battery life.

Google will also now show your screen time since the last full charge. The feature was removed on Android 12 but is expected to make a comeback in Android 14.

File access - personalised

With Android 14, Google will roll out more control to users over what files apps can access. Want to give apps access to only a few photos? Android 14 should be able to do that. This way, your privacy is preserved proactively.
