If you¡¯ve been a gamer in the past decade a game series that would put any system into a state of shock was Crysis -- developed by Crytek the game was known for its realistic looking graphics that could max out even the most powerful graphics cards in the markets.
The game series started with Crysis -- that came out in 2007 -- a time when cards like Nvidia¡¯s GeForce GTX 8800 used to be one of the most powerful. The successors to the series Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 came in the year 2011 and 2013 respectively -- each more daunting and power-hungry than its predecessor.
The legend of Crysis
Whenever people boasted about their PC hardware specs, a question was sure to pop up -- ¡°But can it run Crysis?¡±
Eventually, the gaming hardware industry caught up with both CPUs and GPUs getting better at performance, thermals, as well as power consumption, (also no new Crysis games were launched) and they, could run even the most graphically intensive Crysis 3 on highest settings with no hiccups.
The game eventually lost its reputation and well everything was fine, until a few days ago.
Crysis¡¯s dormant twitter handle started tweeting random sentences from its game. This hinted something was incoming. And then last night, they finally made the announcement -- they¡¯re remastering the OG Crysis for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch as well as PC.
The official release has revealed that it will be making use of ray-tracing to make the light effects in the game look a lot more realistic while bringing in support for higher resolution playback -- making it look like a 2020 game.
While the PS4 and Xbox One is fine, It will be interesting to see how they manage to run it on the Switch -- a handheld console that runs on Nvidia¡¯s Tegra X1, which is a decent processor, but not what Crysis usually can run on. Crytek is teaming up with Saber Interactive, (the studio that helped bring The Witcher 3 to the Nintendo Switch) to make the port to the Switch happen.
They haven¡¯t revealed the dates for the game¡¯s launch. We could expect a few more updates in the coming weeks.
