'Father Of Internet' 76-Year-Old Vint Cerf Tests Positive For COVID-19
The whole country is under lockdown while they¡¯re trying to contain the novel coronavirus. And during this lockdown, the internet is the only thing that is helping us stay sane. However, no one is safe from this godforsaken coronavirus, not even the father of the internet.
COVID-19 has spread across the world at an unprecedented rate. What started at a fish market in Wuhan, Hubei province in China, has now spread to the other side of the continent in the US, infecting over 100,000 people in the US alone.
The whole country is under lockdown while they¡¯re trying to contain the novel coronavirus. And during this lockdown, the internet is the only thing that is helping us stay sane. However, no one is safe from this godforsaken coronavirus, not even the father of the internet.
Vint Cerf, one of the co-creators of the internet we all so love and adore, has been tested positive for COVID-19, according to a tweet sent out Monday morning.
He retweeted an episode from HBO Show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver that was talking about the US response to the pandemic that has crippled their nation, stating, ¡°I tested positive for COVID-19 and am recovering. Listen to what John Oliver has to say about our national response so far.¡±
Vint Cerf was instrumental in creating the modern internet, working with UCLA. He developed packet switching for ARPANET under Leonard Kleinrock as well as TCP/IP protocols with ARPA -- the skeleton on which our internet functions today.
He has also served six years on the US government's National Science Board. Currently, he is serving as VP of research at Google, since 2005 and has also been awarded several times for his work in the field of tech.
Today, the novel Coronavirus has infected a total of 693,000 confirmed cases till date and has claimed lives of over 33,000 people globally. In India, we have over 1,100 people infected with COVID-19 and the death toll has reached 32.
We wish Cerf the best of health and hope he makes a speedy recovery.
