Indian University Will Offer Free Tuition To COVID-19 Workers And Their Children

Today we¡¯re seeing people in the frontline struggling hard to help contain the novel coronavirus.

Whether it is people in the medical field or people from the police force or even the waste collectors that are risking their lives every day so that our lives keep functioning smoothly amidst this chaos.

And while we¡¯re all thankful and appreciate their hard work in our social media posts, it isn¡¯t enough. However, Lovely Professional University has decided to take this up a notch.

Lovely Professional University has announced that it will offer free education to frontline workers and their wards who get affected by COVID-19 while saving the nation (regardless if they survived the battle or didn¡¯t). The institution has announced that they will be waiving off 100 percent of the tuition fee as a token of their gratitude for them.

People eligible for this include medical professionals, policemen, media persons, administrative staff, railway and airline employees, bank employees and others.

Ashok Mittal, Chancellor, Lovely Professional University said in a statement, ¡°If India has largely managed to stay safe from COVID 19, it is on the back of the massive efforts that our frontline workers have put in. We salute their commitment to put the nation¡¯s cause ahead of their personal safety every day they go out to perform their duties. It would be an honour for us to have them or their wards study at LPU. The scholarship is just a small token of our appreciation for their service to the nation.¡±

LPU and its students have already been working hard on making people lives easier during COVID-19 pandemic. In March, LPU¡¯s Prabin Kumar Das, a B Tech student, along with his professors has created a small IoT pendant (which he calls Kawach) that is designed to promote social distancing.

In April, another LPU student Anant Kumar Rajput, under the guidance of Assistant Professor Mandeep Singh and Project Officer, Ruhul Amin Choudhury from Student Research & Project Cell at LPU developed a UV light racket to decontaminate surfaces and objects from the novel coronavirus.

And a few weeks ago, another group of students from LPU developed an algae-based respirator to allow the wearer to breathe better while also strengthening the protection from the novel coronavirus as well as pollution.

The university has come up with 13 categories under which wards of India¡¯s COVID warriors can apply for scholarships.

The students looking to enrol this year can apply for scholarships under this scheme along with the necessary documents/certificates, on or before June 30, 2020.
