Samsung Takes Intel¡¯s Spot As Top Chip Manufacturer In The World
Today, Samsung was able to claim the top spot primarily due to the ascending average sales price of NAND and DRAM chips.
Samsung Electronics has reclaimed the spot of the number one semiconductor manufacturer based on revenue. This was based on a strong Q2-2021 report shared by the McClean Report (highlighted by Tom's Hardware).

Samsung achieved a 19 percent increase in overall IC (integrated circuit) sales compared to the first quarter of 2021, making a total of $20.29 billion in the period between April and June. From this, 19.26 billion came from IC sales amounted to 19.26 billion whereas $1.03 billion came from optoelectronic sensors, and other discrete sales.
On the other side, American CPU giant Intel achieved a smaller three percent quarter-over-quarter increase that resulted in $19.3 billion in chip sales. In comparison, AMD, which has the reputation of having a competitive CPU portfolio in comparison to Intel, only managed to bring in $3.85 billion.
IC Insights had already predicted this shift of power in the semiconductor players all the way back in May, estimates of which were shattered by both Intel and Samsung by around $3 billion.

Today, Samsung was able to claim the top spot primarily due to the ascending average sales price of NAND and DRAM chips (with later being a considerably high-volume product for Samsung and putting Intel on a disadvantage since it doesn¡¯t produce RAM). Samsung last held this position all the way back in the third quarter of 2018, at a time when NAND and DRAM were in the midst of market shortage.
