Not Metaverse, Sundar Pichai Feels Google¡¯s Future Is Internet Search And AI
According to Pichai, users will ask more questions using voice and ¡®multimodal experiences¡¯. He feels that embracing all this and evolving Google search will be the biggest opportunity for the company.
While the likes of Meta (formerly Facebook) think metaverse is the future, Google CEO Sundar Pichai believes that its company¡¯s future lies in its oldest, albeit strongest offering -- Search.

In a conversation with Bloomberg TV¡¯s Emily Chang for Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore, he said, ¡°I feel fortunate our mission is timeless. There¡¯s more need to organize information than ever before.¡±
Just last week, the search engine giant managed to cross $2 trillion in market valuation, due to overwhelming sales and profit growth during the pandemic. And Pichai stated that the next $1 trillion would come from the company¡¯s core service.
According to Pichai, users will ask more questions using voice and ¡®multimodal experiences¡¯. He feels that embracing all this and evolving Google search will be the biggest opportunity for the company.

Pichai revealed the Cloud, YouTube and Google Play Store to be its key growth businesses, and AI was underlying each of them.
He also emphasised that Google products will now be tested in Asia first, before being rolled out globally, but not China, after it ended its plans of launching Google Search there in 2018.

Metaverse seems to be the future, and companies like Microsoft and Facebook parent Meta have showcased what they wish to do with it. Google had already showcased its version of the future a decade ago, with Google Glass, although it wasn¡¯t as successful.
Talking about the future, Pichai said, ¡°I¡¯ve always been excited about the future of immersive computing. This doesn¡¯t belong to any company. This is the evolution of the internet.¡±
