His first salary from Twitter in four years was a whopping $1.40.
You see, Dorsey has for years chosen to not draw a salary from Twitter, or even any bonuses or stock options. It's his way of showing that he's committed to building the company and, in his words, "as a testament to his commitment to and belief in Twitter's long-term value creation potential."
So why draw a $1 salary anyway? Well, it's symbolic to Dorsey and Twitter. At 140 cents, it's the same as the original character limit that used to exist for tweets. Before the wide adoption of smartphones, people could text their tweets in an SMS to post online when the platform began in 2006. It was only much later in 2017 that the limit was first increased, and then lifted.
It's unclear whether Dorsey's salary will also increase next year to $2.80.
