No More Spectacles: These Eye Drops Could Reduce Blurry Vision For Millions
Known as "Vuity," the FDA approved eye drops can help improve near vision for millions who depend on reading glasses
If you grew up listening to your grandma's holy words - "there are drops for it," she might actually have been onto something. New eye drops that have been approved by FDA in the United States could change how people with visual deficiency read.
In fact, the drops could entirely replace reading glasses. Blurred near vision mostly affects people aged 40 and older, making it hard to clearly see nearby objects.

Vuity - the magic eye drops
Called "Vuity," the eye drops were approved by the Food and Drug Administration in October and have the potential to replace reading glasses.
According to the makers of Vuity, the eye drops start working as soon as 15 minutes after being used. Each drop can provide sharper vision in the eye for six to 10 hours on average.

The clinical trials for the eye drops saw participation of 750 subjects for a condition known as "presbyopia" which causes your near vision to become blurry.
Using the eye's natural ability to reduce its pupil size, the drops make seeing easier for people with vision ailments.

Reducing the pupil size can "expand the depth of field or the depth of focus." This allows people to focus at different ranges "naturally," Dr. George Waring, the principal investigator for the trial told CBS.

Even then, the drops are not a fix-it-all cure. In fact, Vuity's makers urge users not to administer the drops when driving at night or while performing activities in low-light conditions.

The drops seem to work best in mild to intermediate cases, becoming less effective after the age of 65.
