Rich People Are Stressing Out Because They Don't Get Enough Time To Spend Their Money
You¡¯ve probably heard it said many times that money can¡¯t buy you happiness. You probably also scoff at that as you look over the monthly bills that eat into your meagre budget. But some experts do believe that rich people might be the unhappy ones.
You've probably heard it said many times that money can't buy you happiness. You probably also scoff at that as you look over the monthly bills that eat into your meagre budget.
But some experts are starting to believe that rich people might actually be unhappy and suffering from stress because of their insurmountable money.
Apparently, they're upset that all those riches can't buy the most valuable resource in the world?-time.
Economist Daniel Hamermesh recently released his new book, titled 'Spending Time: The Most Valuable Resource'. In the book he argues that high-earners are usually working long hours.
So even though rich people may have more money than the average person, they also have less time to spend it with.
"While our incomes keep on going up, we feel more and more rushed," Hamermesh told Business Insider. He's probably not talking about people that just have fortunes they can sit on of course, but those that work hard to earn a lot of money. And they're stressed, he says, because they don't have enough free time to partake in the leisure activities all that cash can buy.

Basically, Hamermesh says high-income earners have more options when it comes to spending their money compared to low-income earners. And when they do get time off, they're less likely to spend money on designer goods and more on activities that cost more per hour, like expensive vacations, gym memberships, and exclusive hotels. Of course, those also require you have more free time than if you were buying a fancy car for instance.
Conversely, low earners don't worry about the time they have to spend at work or how much leisure time they get. They are however stressed about the income they feel they lack.
"I'm not sympathetic with the rich guy who says how stressed," Hamermesh told the outlet. "He could choose to work less, give away his income, and he wouldn't be as rushed for time. On the other hand, the low-income individual just isn't living very well. To me, that's much more important."
In the near future though, high-earners could possibly have an out. As space technology improves, maybe they could simply hop on a rocket and colonize another planet instead. They could pick one with more hours in the day than Earth. That way, they could work the same amount, and still have plenty of time for all that cash-burning.
Low-income peeps on the other hand, they're mostly just stuck, and that's the problem we need to look at and solve.
