Watch: Emotional Moment As Chimpanzee Mother Meets Her Baby After Birth
The Sedgwick County Zoo in Kansas is where the video was shot in November 2022. The animal care team transported Baby Kucheza to a hospital for treatment.
Chimpanzees are known to be highly emotional animals. They have been observed exhibiting a wide range of emotions, including joy, sadness, fear, anger, and empathy, both in the wild and in captivity.
They are also social animals that form strong bonds with other chimpanzees, especially family members, and display a range of behaviours that suggest they experience complex emotions similar to those felt by humans. For example, chimpanzees have been observed comforting each other when distressed, sharing food and grooming each other, and even mourning the loss of group members.
A chimpanzee mother gave birth recently, and a very emotional video of her meeting her infant baby is going viral. Watch the emotional viral video here.
Chimpanzee mother's emotional meeting with her baby
Soon after a chimpanzee gave birth, the veterinarians removed the infant to give it medical attention. The chimpanzee mother believed her child was dead and was utterly devastated.
When the baby was returned to her following the procedures, she was overjoyed to see her baby boy and immediately took him in her arms and gave him an embrace. The Sedgwick County Zoo in Kansas is where the video was shot in November 2022.
The animal care team transported Baby Kucheza to a hospital for treatment because he had low oxygen levels. When the baby was brought back and placed in front of the mother nearly 48 hours later, she was unable to contain herself and gave him an embrace. The touching scene was caught on camera.
The mother in the video has now allegedly passed
A user in the comments informed, "Mahali, the mother, had gone through a C-Section and needed time to recover so the baby was temporarily separated until she recovered enough to take care of her baby, who was named Kucheza."
The comment aslo added, "Unfortunately Kucheza had passed away a few weeks after the reunion, which was later determined that the death was from Head Trauma. Mahali and her family have been very quiet and kept close together, but happily greet their care givers which is a sign that she is slowly healing from the lost along side her loved ones."
Mixed feelings can be seen in the comments section. While some people were moved to tears by the mother and child's touching reunion, others argued that animals shouldn't be kept in zoos and should instead be released into the wild. Here's what people said.
